A title like ‘Jake the Thinker’ probably implies some sort of philisophical streak. An old man pondering life and all its mysteries whist gently stroking his glorious Dumbledore-esque beard. Well, even though I don’t have facial hair quite as impressive as a fictional professor of magic, I do enjoy contemplating various topics. Law, religion, advertising and fashion are just a few that catch my interest.
For most of my life, my family, friends, teachers, collegues and managers have told me; “Jake, you never stop thinking, do you? You’ve always got something going on in that head of yours.” I thought they make a good point, even though they weren’t trying to. So I thought I’d get some of the stuff bouncing around in my head out through jakethethinker.com, sharing my perspective on life, the universe and, well, whatever takes my fancy.
My passion is Advertising. The creative side specifically. This is what I do for a living and I love it. I love thinking about it, talking about it and, when it’s appropriate, debating it. I do love a good debate.
Most of all though, I love creating advertising. It’s what I’m good at. All that stuff on TV between the reality shows and imported sit-coms. Those seven meter high billboards you see on your morning commute. The colourful bits around the stories in your paper. want your boss knowing you’re on during business hours. I’m one of those guys who spends far more time than he should thinking about advertising and how to make it better. The upshot of all this is that, in the end, the ads I come up with are interesting, or funny, or stylish. They are just generally worth what little time you’re willing to commit to them.
But I know that not everyone is as interested in advertising as I am. So I’ll try to not focus too heavily on that, or any one particular topic for that matter. But you’ll notice that I will often relate things back to advertising. This isn’t so much deliberate, it’s just the way I see the world.
